Tree of endless despair. Due to the wide tangled nature of this tree, this turned into a monster of a job. The very limited work area due to the sheds and railway line, which made this dismantle harder, and added an extra day to the job.

Small woodlands like this can be managed sustainably, to provide an income for the owner, and supply local markets with firewood and sawlogs. Both of these products will stay within the county reducing their carbon footprint, and provide local employment to process.

Woodland crisis: Dying Ash

With the full extent of the Ash Dieback now becoming clear, woodlands are no longer functioning as carbon sinks, adsorbing rain water to prevent flooding, supplying lower carbon fuel, providing employment in rural areas, and income for land owners when diversification is becoming ever more important.

Using the Log Bullet to extract the selected timber with minimal damage to the forest floor. Nothing has been done with this wood for over 40yrs, and as a result the wood is becoming moribund. By starting a selective thinning process, we are able to alter the light levels to the forest floor, and encourage the dormant seed bank to come back to life. Additional trees are also going to be planted to alter the age structure.
